The San Luis Stake held a quarterly conference on July 14 and 15, 1901.  This article in the July 27, 1901 Deseret News mentions Samuel Jackson.  It says: "At the session held on Monday Bishop Christen Jensen reported the Eastdale ward and Bishop Samuel Jackson reported the Manassa Ward."

Samuel Jackson, Sr. Obituary (Apr 24, 2010)
The Washington  County News, May 8, 1919 contains the obituary of Samuel Jackson, Sr. Samuel was born July 13, 1844 in Manchester, Lancashire, England and died on May 3, 1919, at St. George, Utah.  Thanks to KariAnn Christensen for the find.

The obituary is contained in the second column and is entitled:  "Samuel Jackson Passes."  It reads:  "Samuel Jackson, of Manassa, Colo, who had been here about ten weeks visiting his sister-in law, Mrs Myra Adams, passed away at the latter's home on Saturday, May 3.  He had the 'flu' last October which left him with a weak heart and asthma.  He went to the coast in hopes of being benefited but got no improvement there so came to St. George, where he died of the trouble stated.  Samuel Jackson was 75 years old and was bishop of Manassa ward for 21 years, resigning when ill health overtook him.  He is survived by two wives and seven children.  One of his wives, Mrs Martha Jackson, a sister of Mrs Myra Adams of this city was with him during his illness and death here.  A son, Samuel Jackson, Jr., came here for the remains and left with them Tuesday for Manassa, Mrs Jackson accompanying him."

The last column under "Card of Thanks" reads:  "To all those kind friends who helped us by their presence, sympathy and kindly acts in our recent bereavement, we desire to extend most sincere thanks.  Martha Jackson, Samuel Jackson, Jr., Myra Adams

William Jackson Missionary Journal (Jan 9, 2010).  William served two missions. This is his journal from his second mission to England from April, 1909 to April, 1911.  I believe the transcription was by Karen Jackson.

San Luis Stake Academy Documents (Jul 31, 2009).   Four documents pertaining to the San Luis Stake Academy: (1) commencement program for the class of 1920, (2) commencement program for the class of 1921 which included Elvera Jackson, (3) commencement program for the class of 1922 which included Warren Rasmussen and (4) a souvenir commemorating the S. L. S. A which burned down on April 11, 1925.  For more information on the S. L. S. A. see the article written by Donald Haynie.

The S. L. S. A. Roar (Jun 27, 2009).  The S. L. S. A. Roar newspaper published in Manassa, Colorado on February 24, 1922.  I assume S. L. S. A. is short for San Luis Stake Academy.  Page two reads: "Mr. and Mrs. Will Jackson are the proud parents of a new baby boy."  This is referring to the birth of Elbert Jackson on February 15th, 1922.

Elvera Jackson Rasmussen photographs and documents added (Nov 1, 2008).  Added 49 photographs and 5 documents.  Elvera (b. September 29, 1902) was the daughter of William and Mary Jackson. For more information see the Documents and Photographs pages.

Petition for Land Documents (Jun 16, 2007).  When Mary Georgena Jackson (b. April 9, 1885) passed away she held land in her name.  Since she did not have a will it was necessary for the family to file a petition for the land.  An ad was taken out in the local newspaper indicating the families claim to the property.  And William filed a verification document.  Click here, here and here.

Zachariah Jaques update (Mar 18, 2007).  Jeanette Hurst, daughter of Josephine Jackson Jones, has been doing some great work on Zachariah Jaques and provided me with two documents.  Zachariah married Sarah Clewer and was the father of Hannah Maria who married Samuel Jackson.  The first document is a journal of John Woodhouse who writes of Zachariah becoming sick in St. Louis, MO.  The second document speaks of Zachariah accidentally killing someone and his sentence being deferred.  She will be updating his history in the near future.
